Adrian Shaughnessy is a self-taught graphic designer based in London. He spent 15 years as creative director of Intro, the design studio he co-founded. He left in 2004 to pursue an interest in writing and to work as a freelance consultant. Until spring 2007, he was consultant creative director of This is Real Art. Today he runs ShaughnessyWorks, a studio combining design and editorial direction.

Shaughnessy has written and art directed numerous books on design including the Sampler series, a trio of books devoted to radical music graphics. He edited Display Copy Only, a volume of Intro work, and his most recent publication is How to be a Graphic Designer Without Losing Your Soul.

He is editor of Varoom — The Journal of Illustration and Made Images. He writes regularly for many design publications, including Eye, Creative Review, Etapes and Grafik. He has a monthly column in Design Week and is a contributor to The Wire. He has been interviewed on television and radio about design and contemporary visual culture, and lectures extensively in the UK and abroad. He hosts a weekly radio show on Resonance (www.resonancefm.com) called Graphic Design on the Radio.
