Nick Currie has recorded around twenty albums under the name Momus. Despite a strong interest in graphic design, he opted to study literature, taking a first in English from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. As well as making music under his own name for records, film and theatre, Currie has worked extensively on writing and production for Japanese performers like Kahimi Karie and Emi Necozawa. He also contributes regular cultural journalism to magazines like
Vice, Index, Metropolis, Black Book, Dot Dot Dot, and AIGA
Voice.
In 2000, Currie held his first one-man art show, an installation called Folktronia, at LFL Gallery in New York. He followed this in 2002 with "Suffusia: A Beautiful Life," a commission from MoCA's online gallery. Currie currently lives in Berlin but spends several months each year in Japan. He will spend the first two months of 2005 at the Future University in Hokkaido, Japan, directing an audio art installation called "Lost Radio, Found Sound."
