Kathryn Gallagher

Once upon a time, when crowds gathered in theaters to watch actors upon the stage, Kathryn Gallagher played Bella in Jagged Little Pill, a Broadway musical based on the album by Alanis Morisette. The deeply moving Bella is a young woman who is raped and who struggles to get others to believe her. Theaters are now closed because of the cornoavirus, but you can still see Kathryn Gallager at work on the Netflix series You, and on many other television shows. And you can hear her extraordinary voice on her two studio albums.

Debbie talks with Kathryn Gallager about her young career as an actor/singer/songwriter and about trauma on and off the stage. “When you go through trauma you have to let it go through you.”

Both Debbie and Kathryn are supporters of The Joyful Heart Foundation. Joyful Heart was founded in 2004 by actress and activist Mariska Hargitay, star of the long running TV show, Law and Order SVU. Mariska founded Joyful Heart to erradicate domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. The work now focuses on eliminated the rape kit backlog in the United States.
